We're beginning this weeks intern follow up blog with Mount Saint Vincent University intern Rawane Nassif! In Honduras, Rawane has been working with with the Partners in Education Roatan (PIER). To view Rawane's original blog and read a little bit more on the organizations, click here.
Rawane answered a couple of questions we had - and here is what she wanted to tell us:
1 - What has your internship been like for you so far?
So far my internship has been quite interesting! I am interviewing people, learning about the history of the island, taking part in different cultural activities, writing stories for kids, filming teaching workshops, taking pictures of different events, helping to create teaching activities and learning Spanish. I am mostly also just being a part of the daily life of the island as well as taking part in the daily activities of my hosting organisation.

2 - How is it different from what you expected? And how is it like what you expected?
The internship is quite similar to what I expected but the setting is way richer than what I envisioned. The island has a large diversity of cultures and languages and offers quite a load of different histories and stories to explore. So as expected, my research is quite flexible and I have to change my topics of interest according to the fieldwork findings. Therefore it is more like trial and error accompanied by a steep learning curve.
3 - What do you predict the rest of the internship will look like?
The rest of my internship entails more work with illustrators to bring the stories that I write to life. I will also create some children activities for a winter camp, film some of the old residents of the island telling their stories and take part in fundraising activities for my southern host organisation.
