About the event
Join us for a community celebration marking African Heritage Month and International Development Week 2026. This event brings together culture, storytelling, and global solidarity through music, visual art, and community reflection. Hosted with partners Connecting to Africa, ACIC, and African Nova Scotian Affairs, the program will feature drumming, youth-led storytelling from Ghana, a graphic art showcase, and musical performances, alongside reflections on African Heritage Month and International Development Week. The gathering will conclude with an exhibition viewing and refreshments, creating space for connection, learning, and shared celebration.
This celebration aligns strongly with the Sustainable Development Goals by highlighting the power of cultural expression, diaspora leadership, and community connection. Through performances, youth storytelling, and shared reflection, the event uplifts SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By honouring African heritage within a global context, the program reinforces how solidarity, creativity, and collective action contribute to more equitable and thriving communities locally and globally.
