Nearly every day after work, we pull into town, holding onto the back of the pickup, to the sounds of the school to the left in a cacophony of drums, cymbals and lyres, students playing simultaneously and practicing for the upcoming series of street celebrations for Guatemala’s “Mes Pátrio” (Patriotic Month, September 15th being Independence Day) here in San Lucas.
