ReMEMBER Staff Edition: Jennifer

This woman will make you laugh. She gets the job done but will make sure you have fun getting there. If you’re worried about a deadline, she’ll help you feel at ease and remind you to stop taking life so seriously. Jen is definitely a model of someone who enjoys life and is committing her life to making a difference in the community.

Jennifer Sloot: Executive Director

1. In 1-2 sentences, what does a typical day look like for you?

It depends on the time of year of course, but in the summer I generally get up early, get breakfast for myself and the kids, read while I have my morning coffee and then take the boys to daycare. At work, I am mainly at my computer, writing reports, answering telephone calls and email messages and spending countless hours on conference calls!

2. What is your favourite bit about working at ACIC?

I like the thinking that is involved in my job – I love coming up with ideas for projects and figuring out how things fit together in the bigger picture. Oddly, I love the high stress times as well – when everyone is working together to accomplish something to a tight deadline I feel a sense of friendship and camaraderie that I love. Of course I love the staff here too – that makes all the difference in my job.

3. Favourite quote?

I don’t think I have one, although I love reading what other people choose to post on facebook or use as their signature in emails.

4. On a day off, you’d most likely be …

Hang-gliding. I absolutely love it! (kidding of course! Just wanted to shock you….) Actually, I would most likely be spending time with my boys. We love to sail together, swim, go to yard sales and reading is definitely at the top of the list as well.

5. What are you currently reading?

50 Shades of Grey (just kidding… already read it and HATED it). I am an avid reader and generally have a few books on the go. I’m currently reading better living through plastic explosives, the weird sisters, the snow child and everything is illuminated.
