Philanthropic Foundations Canada

 

The following list is a compilation of foundations, CSR programs, and government grants available to Canadian non-profits and charities. This list was generously developed and shared by Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia.


F. K. Morrow
The Foundation provides funding to registered charities delivering programs in the fields of social service,  education, research, culture, arts, religion, health, the environment, and community benefits.
 

Alice and Murray Maitland Foundation - Provides funding to charitable organizations providing services for the benefit of the health of children.

Edwards Family Foundation - To enhance quality of life, primarily through NS organizations that focus on the wellKbeing of individuals,  with special emphasis on children, community, education, medicine, the arts as well as innovative causes that promote social responsiveness.

Conn Smythe Foundation - Focused on providing funding to small, efficient, volunteer based charities that need contributions to help  them grow or undertake new projects.

The Georgina Foundation - Support services for women, youth/children, people with disabilities, seniors, and established food banks.

Philip Smith Foundation - Contributions to religious, charitable or educations institutions within Canada.

J.E. Panneton Family Foundation - The objective of the foundation is to extend funds to qualified organizations, in particular to registered  charities, which serve to further the cause of hospitals, the arts, and education.

J.P. Bickell Foundation - Interested in small grants that can have a significant  social impact in transforming the lives of individuals and  communities.

The Norman Black Foundation - Grants to charitable organizations.

The Catherine and Maxwell Meighen Foundation - Registered charities.

Flemming Charitable Foundation - To provide relief for children, women, men and families who are in need by virtue of their being poor,  handicapped or disadvantaged. HRM focus.

The Halifax Foundation - Local HRM projects.

Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Foundation - Early childhood initiatives, mainly in Atlantic Canada.

J.W. McConnell Family Foundation - Focuses on four national priorities - inclusion, innovation,  resilience and sustainability. Funds national charities.

McCain Foundation - Supports non-profit organizations across Canada and has a strong focus on organizations in Atlantic Canada.  Traditional giving focuses on arts & culture, community & civic projects, health & wellness, education, and the  environment. The foundation has also introduced a new strategic focus on improving literacy in Atlantic Canada.

United Way of Halifax Community Fund - Provides funding within four categories of community  investment: opportunities, neighbourhood, social capital, and healthy living.

Donner Canadian Foundation - Possibility to receive funding for projects deemed to  have high-potential. Charitable organizations may send the Foundation’s Executive Director a two to three-page description of their goals and programs, and the  Foundation will use this information in their search.

Flemming Charitable Foundation - Provides relief for children, women, men, and families who are in need by virtue of their being poor handicapped, or disadvantaged, in the HRM region. Note: Unclear whether the program is ongoing.

Community Impact Program, Inspirit Foundation - Grants up to $25,000 to support projects that bring together young people (18K30) of different spiritual, religious, and secular backgrounds to work toward a common goal.
