About the event

AI & Public Policy

Duration: 2 hrs

The world is changing fast! When ChatGPT launched into the world in November 2022, it took us all by surprise - including governments. In this workshop, we’ll learn about the topline considerations for Canadian policymakers and how to engage the government on issues that matter to us. We will learn about different public policy frameworks, and how to choose what’s right for our organization. Using an AI tool, we will each write a public policy brief for our organization and discuss its strengths and weaknesses together.

This workshop series provides a comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a focus on its growing influence in the social good sector. As AI continues to evolve, it is increasingly being applied to address critical global challenges, from combating climate change to improving healthcare and advancing gender equality. However, along with its transformative potential, AI also brings new ethical concerns about bias, privacy, and unintended consequences. In this series, participants will explore the history of AI, its current applications, and the importance of developing AI systems that are responsible, fair, and aligned with human values.

Participants will also dive into AI’s role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through case studies that showcase AI-driven innovations in areas such as environmental sustainability, clean water, and public health. Special attention will be given to how AI is being used in Canada, including insights from experts in the field. Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and guest speakers, this series equips attendees with the tools to engage with AI thoughtfully and responsibly, and provides a framework for applying AI to create meaningful, positive change within their organizations and communities.

These workshops are now open to anyone who'd like to attend. Please register for the first workshop if you'd like a link to all three workshops, or register individually for the workshops you'd like to attend.
