VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Spending time working with others who have experience with global issues is a great way to learn more about what's going on in the world, gain useful skills, and give to a worthy cause. Just about anyone can volunteer, as there are many ways to contribute your time - from general administrative work, to event planning, to travelling overseas to put your skills to use elsewhere. This year's Symposium promises to be another inspiring and exciting event for Atlantic Canada-based youth, in an environment that fosters cross-cultural understanding, peaceful conflict resolution and global citizenship that recognizes the local connections to global issues. The Nova Scotia-Gambia Association (NSGA) is a non-profit development organization based in Canada which works in partnership with West Africans to pursue initiatives for equitable and sustainable futures for youth. The NSGA currently is working in The Gambia and Sierra Leone, and most of its programs focus on sexual and reproductive health, malaria education, and HIV counselling and testing. All NSGA programs use a highly successful peer education model.
Volunteers are the foundation of NSGA. There are many ways to become involved as a volunteer both in Canada and West Africa. NSGA volunteers help organize events, give presentations on NSGA’s work, and generally help out in any way they can. NSGA also provides opportunities for university interns who are looking to gain experience in working with NGOs.
