Workshops and Panel Discussions
"Third World"
"Majority World"
"The South"
"Developing Countries"
What do these terms mean? What images come to mind when you read them? Where do these images come from?
Most Canadians develop their perceptions of the developing world from the media or advertising campaigns for
international charities. These images tell a certain story of the developing world…but do they tell the whole story?
Across Atlantic Canada, workshops and panel discussions are being organised to stimulate discussion, reflection, and action on the use of images portraying the developing world. Participants will explore what impact images have on the public’s perception of poverty and the developing world. They will also develop a more critical eye with which to view images of the South.
